Although we may not realize it, the lower back is an essential support for the rest of our body. Yet, we often neglect something so significant. With a strong lower back, not only does our posture and everyday movement get easier, but it can increase the longevity of our life! Here we list a couple ways to not only protect your lower back but strengthen it as well.
In order to protect our lower back, we must…
Exercise Daily
Walking, water therapy, exercise ball workouts are all exercises that strengthen the core and can build strong, supportive back muscles to ease our lower back and spine.
Investing in An Ergonomic Chair
Although posture plays a big role in back health, buying a chair that helps support your back and posture while sitting can really help in the long run. Ergonomic chairs are built so that the back, spine, and even your thighs are supported correctly. It is also best to get up and stretch every 50 minutes or so to help with posture.
Lifting Correctly
We all lift so many items in our day-to-day life, but we never put much thought into how we’re lifting an object. The correct way to carry an item off the floor (especially if it’s something heavier) is to lift with the legs. The way to do this is… squat down to grab the item, keep your back straight, and without bending your back, push yourself off from the floor with your thighs. Think of it as straightening your legs rather than your back! There are many video tutorials out there to guide you as well.
These are just a few of the many, many things that we can do for a body part is rarely taken care of!
