Despite summer slowly transitioning to fall, the California heat isn’t something to shrug off. The heat is here to stay even if summer is coming to an end. During this time, it’s important to stay cool and make sure we don’t suffer from heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and more.

First and foremost, the most important thing to do whether it is hot or not is drink water. In order for our body to maintain its normal state, we need to nourish it with plenty of water (more so if the weather is very hot!). When the temperature rises, our body makes us sweat as a way to help us cool down. We need to make sure that we drink enough water to quench our body’s needs and replenish the water we lost through sweating.

The sun’s rays peak between the times of 11 A.M. and 2 P.M. If the weather states that the day will get extremely hot, it is recommended to stay home. However, if staying home isn’t an option for you, it is important to at least avoid the sun between the hours of 11-2 P.M. Make sure to also leave the house with appropriate clothing if you need to leave during a hot day! Something loose and breathable like cotton will help cool down the body and make sure it’s not trapping in more heat under the sun.

A hot day is a perfect excuse to have a sweet snack! Eating something cold like ice cream or drinking something sweet like a milkshake or a smoothie can help cool the body down! Although it isn’t the healthiest option, it is a nice treat for a hot and strenuous day.
