With summer taking over, many of us have been going on vacations and having fun. However, it is important to remember to drive as safely as possible especially since summer means more people will be out on the road. We cannot watch out for others when driving, but we can increase the safety of ourselves and our passengers with these tips and tricks!
- Always keep safety in mind
Do not swerve around or let another get to you. As frustrating as certain situations might seem, it is best to be safe than letting other people’s bad driving get to your head and risk your own safety.
- Be aware of your surroundings
Make sure to frequently check your rear and side view mirrors! Keep your eyes moving to scan the area around you. Be on the lookout for aggressive drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and more.
- Do not depend on the drives around you
When you’re out on the road, don’t depend on other drivers or expect them to do certain tasks. Do not expect them to squeeze you in when changing lanes or think that they will move out of their way for you. Always think and plan according to the worst-case scenario because there might be a chance that it might occur
- Drive slowly!
While you’re traveling, you might encounter empty roads or roads with low traffic. Do not zoom across these streets! Make sure to drive by the posted speed limit or even slower if the conditions apply.
- Don’t be distracted
Being out on the road means that distractions will be all around us whether it will be car accidents, billboards, signs, music, or other drivers! Remember to keep your eye on the road despite the distractions. A couple seconds is all you need before getting into a car accident that can severely injure you and your passengers.
Driving safely does not equate to not having fun! We can still enjoy ourselves while being safe. Make sure to check your surroundings and have a great, safe summer!
